Srinagar: Clashes between government forces and students erupted on Monday around the SP College Srinagar after students started protesting against the force’s action on Pulwama College students Saturday last.
Sources said that slogans raising SP College and SP Higher Secondary School students started marching towards Lal Chowk however a large contingent of police and forces stopped their way near the gate on MA Road.
“Police fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting students who pelted stones triggering clashes,” eyewitnesses said.
Sources said that many students were injured in force’s action. They added that SHO Police Station Kothi Bagh, Raashid Ahmad also sustained injuries during the clashes.
The clashes later extended up to Regal Chowk area and the situation was very tense after people were seen running for their lives and nearby shopkeepers pulled down their shutters.
A police official said that forces did not went inside the college premises and students were stopped near the gate only.
Pertinently, more than 50 college students were injured in force’s action in Pulwama Saturday last.
