PDP leaders’ aides threaten, abuse journalist

Srinagar: Two aides of PDP leaders on Thursday allegedly threatened to kill a stringer working with CNN-IBN news channel in Pulwama district.
Qayoom Khan received life threats from the aides of PDP youth president Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra and PDP MLC Yasir Reshi, he said.
Both the aides—Arif Amin and Tasadduq Yaseen—called Qayoom at 2pm and abused him for leaking the news about the clashes between Parra and NC supporters in Budgam over bogus voters.
“Along with other journalists we were accessing internet at DC office when an unknown caller 9419009544 called me. The caller abused me and my family for running the Budgam story,” said Qayoom, who was admitted to the district hospital Pulwama as he fainted after receiving the threat. After undergoing a medical examination, Khan was discharged and prescribed medicines.
According to Qayoom, Arif told him that he would kill him in the next 24 hours. “I tried to ask him the reasons behind his threats but he kept abusing me. I still feel shivers in my body,” he added.
After two minutes, another caller with number 9906453130 called Qayoom. “When I received the call, the caller abused me and my family like anything. I have not heard such abuses till now. He too threatened to kill me in the next 24 hours,” he added.
A few journalists who were with Qayoom when he received threatening calls said they were discussing the news about the NC-PDP clashes in Beerwah.
“We were discussing the incident and trying to get some footage about the (clashes between NC, PDP) incident. There was a man who has affiliations with PDP and it is likely he reported our entire discussion to Parra,” they said.
Qayoom has filed a complaint against Arif with police station Pulwama. Senior Superintendent of Police Rayees Mohammad Bhat confirmed a complaint has been received from Qayoom.
Both Arif and Tasadduq denied having threatened or abused Qayoom.
“He (Qayoom) has spread baseless news that Parra was involved in bogus voting in Beerwah. I didn’t threaten or abuse him,” Arif said. He claimed he is a friend of Parra’s. Yaseen said he called Khan because he had personally attacked him in front of his colleagues.
Bureau Chief CNN-IBN Mufti Islah said he spoke to Waheed about the incident.
“I told Waheed he should not have done this. He gave his version that he (Qayoom) is spreading baseless news. I will support my stringer,” he said.
