SRINAGAR: Five persons have been booked by police over a brawl that broke out between workers of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) in Srinagar’s Shiekh Bagh polling station near Lal Chowk, sources said.
They said the members of two political parties in fray on Sunday exchanged blows in which one of the workers suffered grievous injuries leading to 17 stitches on his body.
The police lodged an FIR No 24/2017 against five accused in police station Kothi Bagh under section 307 and 341 of the IPC.
Sources revealed that the members of both the parties were involved in coercing voters to cast their votes in favour of particular candidates they represented.
After the brawl in Sheikh Bagh polling station ended, members of PDP attacked the brother of an NC worker beating him to pulp near Abi Guzar locality.
“They had a fight with my brotherand later attacked me also. I even asked the local SHO to help me but he did not,” a local of Abi Guzar said.
