PDP appeals for postponement of Anantnag by-polls

Srinagar: A day after people almost boycotted Srinagar by-polls, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s brother who is contesting the election Monday appealed the Election Commission of India to postpone the Anantnag by-poll scheduled for April 12.
At least eight people were killed and scores were wounded in force’s actions against protesters during the by-poll for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat which saw the voter turnout plunge to an all-time low of 7.14 per cent.
“By-polls in Anantnag should be postponed,” said PDP leader and Mehbooba Mufti’s brother Tassaduq Hussain to reporters.
Addressing a press conference at his Fairview residence in Gupkar, Mufti called for postponing the by-poll in view of large scale protests that erupted during the polling for Budgam-Srinagar parliamentary seat yesterday.
