Army poll patrol stoned in Shopian

Shopian: An army patrol that was stoned by a group of youth in Pinjura area of Shopian on Saturday fired several rounds of ammunition in air to disperse the youth.
Sources said as soon as the patrol of Rashtriya Rifles reached Pinjura, scores of youth raised slogans and pelted them with stones.
The soldiers were carrying out a patrol near polling stations. The act of stoning was a protest against the elections, as the resistance leadership has asked people to boycott the polls and protest.
Tensions run high in south Kashmir, where elections for Anantnag constituency are scheduled on April 12. South Kashmir was at the centre of last year’s uprising.
Senior superintendent of police Shopian Tahir Saleem told Kashmir Reader he didn’t have any information regarding this incident.
“I am busy with election preparations and nothing happened anywhere in the district,” he said.
