SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik on Friday paid tributes to former president of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah on his 7th anniversary and said that personalities like Shah are born after centuries.
“Today when our enemies are hell bent on dividing us into fractions and sects, we need a religious and social leader like him who can bridge gaps and unite Muslims into one Ummah,” Malik, who is detained in Central Jail, Srinagar, said in a statement.
Recalling the struggle and sacrifices of ‘Shaheed-e-Itihad-e-Millat’, JKLF chairman said participation in elections is “disrespect to great martyrs like Shaheed Showkat Shah”.
“The charismatic and multi-dimensional personality of Moulana Showkat is unforgettable and no Kashmiri can overlook his sacrifices and struggle for freedom and efforts to eradicate sectarianism from Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
“Moulana worked tirelessly for the cause of freedom and his efforts to unite Muslim Ummah, promoting and upholding the Qur’an and Sunnah and connecting new generations with these two main sources, his philanthropy, his works in the field of education and social work, his dream of an Islamic University, establishing the non-profit based heath care centers and his leadership; all these qualities bear witness to his unparalleled personality,” Malik added.
Malik said Jamiat Ahle Hadith touched new heights of success in Moulana Showkat’s era but his absence is more felt by those who didn’t belong to his creed as his personality was a symbol of unity and humbleness.
“The freedom struggle of Kashmir is indebted to great martyrs like Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah and today when we remember this great soul, we pledge to take the mission of these martyrs to its desired goal,” Malik said and appealed people to boycott the upcoming elections.
