Detained Mirwaiz emphasizes poll boycott, addresses Jamia on phone

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday reiterated appeal for poll-boycott saying that any elections under Indian dispensation were deceptive as they are sold by the government of India to the world as an expression of peoples will regarding their future dispensation. “The reality is that for the past 70 years people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle for achieving their Right to decide their political future through self determination as guaranteed by the UN,” Mirwaiz said while addressing a public gathering at Jamia Masjid on phone, according to a statement issued by the amalgam.
Mirwaiz continues to remain under house arrest and barred by the state authorities for the fifth consecutive Friday from offering prayers and delivering weekly sermon at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
In his telephonic address, Mirwaiz asserted that suppression, detention, tyranny and torture of the people and leadership cannot stifle their voice calling for the freedom of Kashmir.
Mirwaiz said that as per the joint resistance programme, people should observe a protest strike from the evening of April 8 till the evening of April 09 to show complete resolve and commitment with the freedom struggle.
Mirwaiz also read out the resolution drafted by the Joint Resistance Leadership which called upon the people to show complete commitment towards the resistance movement, express steadfastness towards the goal of the struggle nurtured by the huge sacrifices of the people especially the youth and to stay away from the sham elections.
