Woman acid attacked in Handwara, manhunt on to track down culprit

Handwara: Police have begun a manhunt to track down a youngster who allegedly threw acid on a 25-year-old woman in north Kashmir’s Handwara area on Tuesday.
Police said that one Ajaz Ahmad Dar son of Gulam Hasan Dar, a resident of Palpora village of Langate in Handwara splashed sulphuric acid towards 25-year-old woman belonging to the same area outside her village. The woman received severe burn injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. After committing the crime Dar fled away from the spot.  The woman was later shifted to district hospital Baramulla.
Police station Kralgund registered a case under FIR number 14/2017 under section 307 in this regard and arrested a youth Mohammad Abbas Najar son of Mohammad Yaqoob Najar who has allegedly transported the acid to help the attacker.
The sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Handwara Shabir Ahmad Khan said that a team of police is investigating the incident and manhunt to nab the main accused has been launched in the area.
It was not known as to why Dar attacked the woman.
