SRINAGAR: State Winter Games-2017 concluded at Gulmarg on Monday. 13 races in three snow based sports were held at Kongdori – Gulmarg.
More than 140 boys and girls from different districts of the state participated in the event.
In Mens (Senior) Alpine Skiing category, Bilal Ahmad Sheikh bagged first position and in Women’s senior category Afreena got consolation prize as she was sole participant in this category.
Competitions in Slalom race of Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding were held under the supervision of Dhanbahadur.
Firdous Ahmad Sheikh bagged first position in Snowboarding (Senior Category) while Mehraj-ud-Din Khan achieved the same position in junior category.
The 10 km Nordic Skiing race was held under the supervision of Olympian Nadeem Ahmad.
MLA Tangmarg and President Winter Games Association of J&K Mohammad Abass Wani was Chief Guest and Malik Riyaz Ahmad General Manager J&K Cable Car Corporation was Guest of Honor on the concluding function.
In his speech Abass said that the efforts of the Association are afoot to host National Junior Alpine Ski Championship at Gulmarg from 10th of this month.
He expressed his gratitude to J&K State Sports Council, Tourism Department, J&K Cable Car Corporation, High Altitude Warfare School and Gulmarg Development Authority for extending their full support to make the endeavor of WGAJK a grand success.
He further informed that the association conducted number of activities this winter and kept the youth engaged for a longer period. Those boys and girls who performed exceptionally well were selected for future National level Coaching camps and championships.
