Protests in Sumbal after army vehicle hits load carrier

Sumbal: Four persons were injured, two of them critically, after a speeding army vehicle hit a load carrier near Dangerpora area of Sumbal in Bandipora district on Tuesday.
The speeding army vehicle hit the load carrier driven by Mohammad Maqbool of Nowgam Sumbal resulting into injuries to four persons. The incident triggered protests in the area as people came out on streets and shouted pro-freedom and anti-army slogans.
The injured were identified as Mohammad Maqbool, Shabir Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad and Nisar Ahmad who were taken to JVC for treatment.
The protesters blocked Bandipora-Srinagar highway for several hours demanding action against the erring army driver.
Later a police party from Sumbal visited the spot and assured the protesters that action would initiated into the incident. Police have registered a case No 34/2017 against the army driver. After the police assurances, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
