JKLF carries out boycott campaign

Says police intimidating youth into voting
SRINAGAR: Activists of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front carried out boycott campaigns at many places in south and central Kashmir and asked people to keep away from the “farce elections”.
Stating that elections under Indian constitution were detrimental to the cause and interests of Kashmiris, a statement issued by JKLF, said that police and authorities were deceiving youth and students into election programs and threatening them to vote or face dire consequences.
“Intimidating students and forcing them to take part on upcoming elections is once again proving the fact that these elections are nothing but a police and army operation,” the JKLF statement said while
condemning “police oppression in the name of so-called democracy and elections”.
The statement said that activists and leaders of JKLF visited many places like Hokhliter, Arizaal, Xarmujroo, Lasi Pora, Barus, Dhaans,Gund, Xhail and Bras in Budgam district, Tulmullah, Sehpora, Chendena in Ganderbal district, Dooru, Ahra Bal, Khuru Hamam and Bazaar Doddru in Islamabad district and Mehjoor Nagar, Padshahi Bagh, Gundabal, and Lasjan and its surrounding areas in Srinagar.
Quoting local delegations, the JKLF alleged that students of girls higher secondary Pulwama, boys school Pulwama, high school Naierah and many other schools were deceived by teachers and staff members in the name of ‘Beti Bechaw Beti Padhaw’ and taken to DC office Pulwama where police and civil authorities addressed them and asked them to cast their votes and ensure votes of their parents in the upcoming elections.
“The delegation also told JKLF leaders that it is a common practice of police and other authorities to call young boys to the police stations and threaten them of dire consequences if they don’t vote. Delegation said that all this was done at the behest of PDP leader Wahid Para,” the statement said.
Similarly, the statement alleged, police has unleashed a reign of terror in Kulgam and Yaripora.
“A youth Khalid Hussain Malik of Kanjimullah was arrested by police in august 2016 and is still in captivity of police.
“Police last night raided the residence of JKLF district president Budgam Gulzar Ahmad Pahalwan and intimidated his family. Police also arrested a youth Gulzar Ahmad from Arihal Pulwama some days ago and tortured him in police station. When his condition worsened police threw him on road outside the police station wherefrom his family took and shifted him to SMHS hospital. The victim has now been shifted to SKIMS Srinagar. A delegation of common people met with JKLF leaders and apprised them about the oppression unleashed in Pulwama by police.”
