Chadoora shut for 6th day against civilian killings

Clashes in Shopian after student’s detention

Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Imam Sahab area of Shopian in south Kashmir on Monday against the detention of a student.

The student was detaining during by a police patrol and questioned.

Youth took to streets and pelted the forces with stones. The student was later released.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Chadoora and adjacent areas for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday in protest against the killing of three civilian by the forces last week.

All shops and other business establishments are closed in Chadoora, Wathura and Nagam areas while public transport is off the roads.

The three civilians had been killed during a clash that erupted after the forces surrounded a house where a militant was holed up. The deceased trio and scores of other people were trying to save the militant by attacking the forces with stones.
