2 men aged 50 and 60 detained in place of their absconding sons

4 others held during night raids in Shopian

Shopian: Two men aged 50 and 60 were arrested in place of their sons whom police are hunting on charges of stone throwing in Shopian. Four other men were also arrested during raids last night in the district
Maqbool Teli, 60, and 50-year-old Ghulam Nabi Bhat were arrested in place of their sons who the police accuse are involved in stone throwing and pro-freedom protests.
Local residents said police raided several residential houses in Trenz village of the district during the night and arrested Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of Basheer Ahmad Bhat; Irshad Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Hassan Lone and Bilal Ahmad Teli son of late Abdul Majeed Teli, all residents of Trenz; and Bilal Ahmad Sheikh son of Basher Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Babe Khider.
Shopian senior superintendent of police Tahir Saleem confirmed the arrests but said he was not aware about the arrest of the fathers.
“The other four persons arrested are involved in law and order and stone pelting cases,” he told Kashmir Reader.
