PULWAMA: Police in Pulwama arrested twelve youths in Arihal village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday on charges of stone pelting, the SSP of the district said.
He said that the arrests were made during night raids in Arihal village.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Rayees Bhat said that the arrested youths were wanted in many cases of stone-pelting in the area. He said that police had served summons to these youth but they pelted stones on the officials sent for summoning them.
“For their failing to report to the police station after being served summons and pelting of stones on police party on Tuesday, police carried nocturnal raids and arrested 12 of them,” the SSP told Kashmir Reader.
He maintained that the arrests have nothing to do with the elections that are scheduled to be held next month.
Nearly 100 youth have been arrested in Pulwama in the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, life returned to normal in parts of Pulwama on Thursday after three days of shutdown against the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants in Awantipora. All shops and other business establishments opened early on Thursday.
