SRINAGAR: The employees of Saakshar Bhatrat Mission held a protest demonstration demanding regularization of their services. While they were marching towards education minister Altaf Bukari’s residence, they were waylaid by police who cane-charged to disperse them.
Ashfaq Ahmed, state president of the forum said that around 7000 employees were recruited under the schemes till March 2017. “We were given targets and we have fulfilled those targets. We were promised that our service will be extended and a concrete job policy will be made for us,” he said.
According to protesting employees, few days before, an order was issued that infrastructure of Saakshat Bharat was an asset of the education department. Shakeel Ahmed, an employee said, “We want to ask them if the infrastructure has some value for them what is the value of the employees. This has depressed us all. Marriages of many employees have broken,” he said.
Arifa Jabeen, another employee said that the Government has compelled them to come on streets. She said, “They didn’t fulfill the promises they made. Why don’t they tell us what plans they have for us?”
They alleged that police did not even spare female protesting employees. Three female employees have suffered minor injuries and some with serious injuries were taken to bone and joints surgery hospital, they alleged.
