Srinagar: Kashmir Reader journalist Nazir Gillo was assaulted by a paramedic at the SMHS hospital where he had gone to cover a story about a destitute woman who had been bitten off by dogs on streets.
The paramedic even threatened Gillo with charging him with harassing a female staffer whom Gillo had asked for the phone number of a doctor attending to the woman.
The paramedic abused and shoved Gillo and grabbed his neck inside the Burn Ward of the hospital.
The reporter went to Medical Superintendent Dr. Nazir Choudhary’s office but was told that he had gone to attend a meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The reporter later went to the office of the CMO, whom he had met earlier also and who had aggressively forbidden him to inquire from the patient. The CMO had said only the MS is authorised to speak to the media.
“I told the rogue paramedic to file a complaint anywhere against me if I had misbehaved with anyone but he vanished as soon as he heard me saying this,” Gillo said.
Dr Nazir Choudhary told Kashmir Reader he will look into the matter and assured action against the paramedic.
