Pampore: The Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Pampore has encroached upon a school in its jurisdiction, squeezing the space available for students and teachers.
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) wing of the ZEO’s office was shifted to
Government Middle School Tulbagh Pampore after September 2014 where it is occupying three out of six rooms.
The staff at the school with 32 students and six teachers said that eight classes have to be accommodated in the three available rooms.
“It causes chaos in the classroom and most of the students get distracted,” a teacher at the school said.
The staff said that repeated requests from the headmaster of the school to have the school building vacated were falling on deaf ears.
“Often, the higher officials inspect the schools to see if the things are going on smoothly. But it is strange that they never show any concern about a problem such as ours,” another teacher said, adding that they were forced to take classes in open air which works only on sunny days.
Parents of the students are also surprised that the ZEO was “not concerned about” the shortage of space caused by his office in the school building.
“What would be the condition of the schools in hilly areas of the zone if the students suffer under the nose of ZEO here?” Ghulam Hassan, a parent remarked.
ZEO Pampore admitted that the grievances of parents were genuine and told Kashmir Reader said that they have not been provided any alternate arrangement.
Chief Education Officer, Pulwama Abdul Hamid Kumar said that he would look into the matter and visit the school soon.
“I am looking for avenues and would shift the office to some other place,” he said adding that he was aware that the students were suffering.
