SRINAGAR: Drug abuse is slowly poising the society. The use of drugs is engulfing the people mostly youth at a faster rate in Kashmir and it needs to be stopped from the grass root level, a senior police official Feroz Yahya said at a drug de-addiction awareness programme at Sher-I-Kashmir international Conference Centre (SKICC).
Yahya was speaking at an event titled as ‘Role of Youth Against Drug Menace’ organised by J&K Youth Development Forum.
“Presently four out of ten youth in Kashmir are involved in Drug addiction. Youth are the torch bearers of the nation and drug menace is slowly eating our society, destroying the future of Kashmir,” Yahya said.
There is a huge threat to the youth of Kashmir they need to be counselled at the early stage and should be involved in different activities.
“Youth in Kashmir are talented but most of them are succumbing to the drug menace, there should be proper counselling to such youth starting from their families,” said Yahya.
Students from Gousia Public School Khanyar and Merlin Public School Rawalpora attended the event which was focused on raising awareness about the rising drug menace among youth.
There should be support from youth, they must voluntarily stop and counsel the drug addicted, said General Secretary of J&K Youth Development Forum, Umar Bhat.
The youth in Kashmir are addicted with many drugs like cannabis, eraser fluid, shoe polish and others. It is the primary duty to force the drug addicts to shun the use of drugs, said Dr Bilal Ahmad.
The chief guest at the event Harinder Pal Singh CO at Indo Tibetan Border Police said, the use of drugs should not be ignored, there should be proper counselling at the early stage so that the youth can be saved from the menace.
