Kupwara jail authorities want treatment of detenue

Srinagar: Authorities at District jail Kupwara, Saturday shifted a detenue to mental hospital for treatment after doctors of the jail termed the condition of the detenue ‘deteriorating’.
Tariq Ahmad Ganai, a prisoner from Shopian, whose Public Safety Act (PSA) term ended on February, 28 is still undergoing detention, his family sources told Kashmir Reader.
Wife of Ganai said that jail authorities last week submitted a report to higher authorities about her husband’s health saying “his condition is serious so he needs to be released or shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment.”
But according to the wife of the prisoner, her husband is neither released nor shifted to Srinagar despite the fact his PSA has already expired.
Father of three, Tariq is the lone bread winner of his family. His family sources said that he was immediately taken back to Kupwara jail from mental hospital.
Tariq was arrested in August last during the uprising for taking part in protests.
