Anantnag: The NC-Congress candidate G A Mir was the first to arrive at the deputy commisioner’s office here on Wednesday for filling his nomination papers for the Anantnag Lok Sabha by-poll, scheduled on April 12. He was accompanied by the NC’s working president Omar Abdullah, and Congress leaders Sakina Itoo Peerzada Mohammad Syed and Tariq Hamid Qarra.
After Mir, PDP candidate Tassaduq Mufti filed his nomination papers. He came along with PDP leader and Member of Parliament Muzafar Hussain Beig, Minister for Revenue, Relief, Rehabilitation and Parliament Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq Khan, PDP vice-president Muhammad Sartaj Madni, and PDP General Secretary Muhammad Rafi Mir.
Tassaduq Mufti, after filling his nomination papers, was asked by reporters if the NC-Congress alliance posed a strong challenge to him? He replied, “I am making preparations to make sure I win. Let the results speak for themselves.”
The Anantnag Lok Sabha seat fell vacant in June last year after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti resigned from the Lok Sabha to contest assembly elections from the Anantnag constituency.
