Baramulla: Over a hundred students studying in eight different classes are huddled in three separate rooms of Government Middle School (GMS) Wanigam in Tangmarg area of district Baramulla. Worse, the school has six teachers only including the headmaster.
“There is single floor three room building for this middle school where over 100 students are enrolled. The students as well as teaching staff are facing a lot of problems due to shortage of space,” a local resident said.
“Due to space and staff crunch, the day to day affairs at the college are managed in a peculiar way. The students from KG to 2rd are reading in one class room while the students of class III and IV are huddled in another class. The rest of the classes are held in a separate room which doubles as the office of the headmaster,” he said.
“We approached the concerned officials several times to shift some classes in the nearby spacious Government High School (GHS) but it was summarily declined,” the villagers said.
The problems of the school aggravated five years ago when another primary school of the locality was merged into it without arrangement for requisite staff and accommodation. No official of the department at the district level was available to comment.
