Chief prosecuting officer arrested for accepting bribe to hush up murder case

Rs 2 lakh demanded and accepted in three installments
Srinagar:  The state vigilance organization arrested a senior prosecuting officer for demanding an accepting a huge amount of money to drop a person from the list of accused in a case filed against him. A spokesman of the orgsanisation said that more arrests were likely in the case after sustained interrogation of the fraudulent officer.
The accused officer Ajazul Hassan was arrested on the basis of an enquiry to probe into the allegations regarding demand and acceptance of a bribe of Rs 200,000. The accused is presently working as senior prosecuting officer, Pooch but has received the bribe amount during his tenure as senior prosecuting officer in JMIC Court, Thanamandi from one Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmed son of Mohammad Iqbal, resident of Panaid, Kotranka, police station Dahral in Rajouri in lieu of helping him by not arraying him as an accused in a case FIR No 29/2014, u/s 302/34/201 RPC registered at Darhal police station against his father, brother and sister.
Following registration of FIR No 10/2017, J&K Prevention of Corruption Act Svt 2006, 120-B RPC was registered at P/S VOJ on 18.03.2017, an inquiry was conducted and it was found that accused Ajaz has demanded a bribe of Rs 200,000 in lieu of helping Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmed by not involving him in the case registered against his real relatives. Further enquiries reveal that accused Ajaz accepted the whole amount of bribe in three installments. In order to carry out detailed questioning regarding his further involvement in the instant case, Ajaz was taken into custody by the sleuths of Vigilance Organization. He has been lodged at police station Pacca Danga. “After sustained questioning there is likelihood of more arrests in the instant case,” a VO spokesman said.
