JAMMU: With the onset of the seasonal horticulture activities in the State, the government has asked the Horticulture Development Officers (HDOs) to immediately lift the samples of pesticides, fungicides, insecticides and allied products for testing to ensure availability of quality substances to the orchardists.
“The seasonal use of pesticides, fungicides, insecticides and allied products on the fruit plants has commenced for which the spray schedule has already been notified by SKUAST. It is accordingly impressed upon all the HDOs to immediately proceed within their territorial jurisdiction for inspection of stores, go-downs, retail shops etc as per the provisions of the Insecticide Act 1968 and lift and send samples to the notified Pesticide Testing Laboratories in Srinagar and Jammu for analysis,” reads a Circular issued by the Horticulture Department in this regard.
As per the circular, the concerned laboratories shall ensure that the test report is sent to the concerned within seven days of the receipt of the sample.
The government has in terms of Section-20 of the Insecticide Act-1968 designated all the Horticulture Development Officers as Insecticides Inspectors within their respective territorial jurisdiction vide SRO-36 of 2015 dated: 06-02-2015.
