PULWAMA: Police arrested ten youth in Tahab and Naira villages in Pulwama district in raids on their homes Tuesday night. Locals said that on Tuesday night, police carried out raids on several houses in the area and rounded up at least a dozen youth on charges of stone throwing.
Tahab area had witnessed protests and fierce clashes after the killing of two militants during a gunfight in Padgampora area of the district last Thursday. SSP Pulwama Muhammad Rayees, however, confirmed the arrest of only ten youth from the area.
“Yes we picked up ten youth from twin villages last night. All the arrested youth are involved in stone throwing at forces. We have the evidence against them for their involvement,” Bhat told Kashmir Reader.
People of the area on Monday had staged a protest urging the government to shift the CRPF bunker from the area. The protesters had complained that the CRPF camp in the main chowk had become the main cause of clashes in the area “The presence of the bunker in the area has become the main cause of tension in the village, not only affecting the business of the traders but also leading to damage to property during clashes that erupt due to the presence of the camp,” locals said.
