Srinagar: The Political Affairs Committee of the J&K Peoples Democratic Party has cleared the candidature of Mufti Tassaduq Hussain for the Anantnag-Pulwama Lok Sabha seat and of Nazir Ahmad Khan for the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s brother Tassaduq Hussain will contest his maiden election from the Anantnag-Pulwama seat, which goes to the polls on April 12, and Nazir Ahmad Khan will be the PDP candidate in Srinagar-Budgam, which goes to the polls on April 9.
The names of the two candidates were cleared at the extra-ordinary meeting of the Political Affairs Committee which was chaired by party president Mehbooba Mufti. All the permanent members of the committee and the special invitees to the meeting unanimously cleared the candidature of the two leaders. The committee also discussed the political situation in the state and expressed confidence that the electorate will take keen interest in the upcoming polls to further strengthen democratic institutions.
