Militants kill sarpanch: Police

‘Killing has less political reasons’
Pulwama: Militants killed a former Sarpanch affiliated with National Conference on Monday and left his body in an orchard in Pulwama district on Monday.
The slain identified as Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Khaliq Dar a resident of Kakapora Pulwama was killed after militants kidnapped him from his home in the morning, police said. Later, his body was found in an orchard at Chewakallan village of the district.
Dar’s nephew Rayees Ahmad Dar was a Laskhar militant who was killed by the government forces in a gunfight in the district last year in November.
Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama Rayees Mohammad Bhat told Kashmir Reader that police has registered a case and started investigations into the killing.
He said that they have also identified the gunmen who gunned down Dar.
GNS quoting Bhat said that preliminary leads suggest hand of Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in the killing and that names of few persons have come to fore.
He said the police will investigate the reason behind the killing and said preliminary probe suggests “less political and more other reasons” behind the assassination.
He said that they would also probe whether the killing was an attempt to derail the present political set up or a simple case of personal animosity or militant incident.
