SRINAGAR: Agriculture department on Monday held sale of seedling to boost vegetable production here, mostly in the kitchen garden set up.
The sale that was inaugurated by Seed Production Officer saw sales touching Rs 35,000 with more than 52,000 seedlings of onion, cabbage and cauliflower provided to customers on first come first serve basis.
The sale that was carried at the Kitchen Garden Promotional Nursery at Lal Mandi saw huge rush of vegetable growers from Srinagar and other districts.
On the occasion officer said that around 20 kanals of area is under this cultivation at Lalmandi where in vegetable seedlings are produced under controlled and open conditions round the year.
He added that high quality seedlings are provided to the growers at an early stage to give boost to vegetable production across the division and to revive the economic conditions of the growers.
This time around the department is growing saplings under controlled conditions in various districts of the valley and seedlings are provided to the growers ahead of the season. “In the coming weeks seedlings of knol khol, saag, and other vegetables will be available for sale at the Kitchen garden Lalmandi,” the officer said.
