Curbs on people to maintain facade of normalcy, says Mirwaiz

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest early on Friday at his residence and stopped from offering Friday prayers. The Hurriyat condemned his arrest and massive deployment of government forces in around Jamia Masjid and barring people from offering congregational prayers.
Condemning the decision of the ruling class of converting the entire area around Jamia Masjid into a garrison of armed forces, the APHC Chairman said that it seems the ruling regime has decided not to make any change in its policy of imposing curbs and repression on people’s basic rights and liberties and keep them subjected to occupation for maintaining the facade of normalcy. “These tactics on the contrary deteriorate the situation further,” Hurriyat said.
Commenting on a report published in a local newspaper that Jammu Kashmir government had allotted 4,80,000 kanal land at Mandalthang, Shayok in Ladakh to the Army, the Mirwaiz said consolidating  military occupation in the disputed territory by grabbing more land for military upkeep and infrastructure and to increase  military presence in Kashmir, indicates increased militarization as a solution to dealing with the conflict which is reflective of an occupational mindset  and looks at resolution through military solution to a political dispute.  Mirwaiz said this attitude is very unfortunate and doesn’t auger well for the region.
