Joint resistance calls for shutdown, protests

SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership has called for complete shutdown on today against the killing of a teenager Amir Nazir Wani in Pulwama.
In a joint statement issued here, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik asked people to observe complete shutdown and hold protests after Friday prayers.
Expressing grief over Amir’s killing, leaders said government forces are desperate to “muzzle the genuine voices through the barrel of gun”.
“The stubborn attitude of Indian authorities is the root cause of uncertainty and bloodshed in the region. Through their revengeful activities, unarmed and innocent civilians are targetted. These brutalities tantamount to war crimes,” they said, adding, “These brutalities won’t break our resolve.”
“Indian leadership needs to pay heed to the screams of people, honour their aspirations and avoid military might against innocents,” the leaders added.
