Friday prayers not allowed in Jamia Masjid Srinagar

Srinagar: Authorities on Friday closed all gates of Jamia Masjid Srinagar and sealed all routes leading to the historical worship place to stop people from gathering for weekly congregational prayers.
“Even Mouzin of Jamia Masjid, Molvi Mohammad Yasin was not allowed to call Azan,” spokesperson Auqaf Jamia Masjid told Kashmir Reader.
He added that all roads leading to Jamia Masjid were blocked by a heavy deployment of police and CRPF men and no one was being allowed to move towards Nowhatta.
Pertinently, pro-freedom leadership had called for protests after Friday prayers against the killing of a civilian at the hands of government forces on Thursday in south Kashmir. Two militants were also killed in Awantipora area of the district during a gunfight.
