Srinagar: The Budgam Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang of car lifters in Magam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
According to a statement, on Mar 2, a police party of Police Station Magam while conducting vehicle checking at Srinagar-Gulmarg road near Agri Kallan crossing intercepted one Maruti EECO car having temporary number KMR(TEM) BA 3094 driven by Mohammad Rafiq Shah, son of Abdul Hameed, resident of Ganiepora Buran Pattan for checking.
Police said that on perusal the documents presented by driver were found fictitious, consequently temporary number of the instant vehicle was verified and found fake.
“During the search of the vehicle, fake RC’s, Insurance certificates, NOC’s and objectionable material viz, number plates Iron driller, revert gun, hammer, screws were recovered from the said vehicle,” the officials said.
They said that during preliminary investigation it came to surface that a group of car lifters is operating in the jurisdiction of Sub Division Magam and after stealing vehicle from different places of the valley/ outside the valley are preparing fake documents thereof.
The officials said that accordingly a case FIR No 19/2017 under section 379, 420, 467, 468, 471, 411, 120-B RPC was registered in P/S Magam and a team under the supervision of SDPO Magam was constituted.
“During the course of investigation it came to surface that car lifters gang operating in the J/D are consolidating/ preparing fake RC’s, Insurance certificates, NOC’s, Number plates and signs of vehicle companies at Akter Advertisers shop Budgam, consequently computer system alongwith available soft data have been seized and arrest of three accused persons have been effected in the case,” the officials added.
The officials said that on their instance the vehicles including Maruti EECO white Color, Hando City silver Color, Santro white color, Beat silver Color, Toyota Fortuner White Color, Taveera White Color having Registration No. JK03-3392, Swift VDI White Color, Beat Chocolate Color, Hyundai I-20 White Color and Swift VDI Green Color were recovered from their possession.
The officials said the investigation of the case is going on and further recovery/ arrests are expected. KNS
