Ganderbal: Sheep husbandry departmentorganised a day long awareness camp for sheep breeders of district Ganderbal at Shalabugh.
Sheep breeders belonging to Shalabugh, Raebtar, Sehpora, Kachan, Haran and adjacent villages attended the camp.
Besides officers of the sheep husbandry officers, Scientists of the SKUAST-Kashmir participated in the camp and threw light on different dimensions of sheep rearing and its management under field conditions.
Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Reshi, Scientist (Animal Science), KVK-Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kashmir gave hands on training of computing least cost balanced ration for livestock utilizing locally available feed ingredients. Highlighting the importance of balanced ration for healthy growth of livestock, Dr Reshi also educated farmers about the importance of value addition of poor quality roughages through urea-molasses-salt-mineral treatment. Incharge block veterinary officer, Kangan Dr Riyaz Ahmed Khan delivered a lecture on, “care and management of new born calf”
Dr Khan in address educated farmers about different dimensions of raising a healthy lamb by taking important measure before and after lambing.
District sheep husbandry officer (DSHO), Dr. Abdul Majeed in his address impressed upon the scientific raising of flock for maximum profitability. He also pointed out that sheep husbandry department is very concerned about the problems being faced by the sheep breeders in the district and promised farmers of every possible help from the department.
