Joint resistance leadership organise protest in Nowhatta

Srinagar: As per the programme of the joint resistance leadership comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, a peaceful protest was organized in Nowhatta Chowk Monday.
Pro-freedom activists and hundreds of freedom loving people participated in the protest.
Holding banners and placards, the protestors raised pro-freedom slogans.
Addressing the protesters the speakers on the occasion said, Kashmir issue was a historic reality and its disputed nature could not be challenged.
Stating that the resistance leadership was duty-bound to take the movement to its logical conclusion, they said the resistance leadership and freedom-loving people of Kashmir had resolved to carry forward the movement until people get their right to self determination.
The Hurriyat leaders said peace and security of the Indo-Pak subcontinent and entire South Asia could only be ensured by making these draconian laws null and void, withdrawing Indian forces from Jammu Kashmir, and by giving people their right to self determination while resolving Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people.
They also condemned the night raids, harassment and beating up of residents and ransacking their houses in various districts of Kashmir in general and south Kashmir’s Pulwama district in particular.
Demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners and hundreds of youth held in various jails across Kashmir and various Indian states, they said not only were Kashmiris being tortured physically and mentally in these jails, police stations, detention and interrogation centres but the detainees were also being denied facilities they have a right to under the Jail Manual, which is against the Geneva Conventions and a question mark on working of the international rights organizations.
