Despite health issues, authorities extend ailing prisoner’s PSA

Srinagar: Authorities have extended the Public Safety Act (PSA) of a prisoner despite suffering from many ailments in Kupwara district jail.
Tariq Ahmad Ganai, resident of Shopian, was arrested in the month of August 2016 and was slapped with PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal, Jail Jammu.
Tariq was however, shifted to Kupwara jail on grounds of bad health.
“Tariq was shifted to Kupwara because he was suffering from ailments like hypertension, diabetes and heart ailment,” Tariq’s council Advocate Nasir Qadri told Kashmir Reader. He added that Tariq’s PSA ended on Feb 28 but authorities extended his it. “I was surprised when I received the PSA extension order of an ailing denetue,” Qadri said.
Tariq’s wife told Kashmir Reader that her husband’s health has badly deteriorated during last six months.
“I met my jailed husband some days back and found him in a very bad condition,” she said.
Tariq is the lone bread earner of his family comprised of three children and wife who are suffering in his absence, his family sources said.
