25 houses of Kashmiris demolished in Jammu anti-encroachment drive

Jammu: More than 25 residential houses belonging to Kashmiri families were demolished in Jammu during an anti-encroachment drive conducted by Jammu Development Authority on Saturday
As per local sources, the drive was conducted in Jammu’s Majheen area near Sidhra.
Sources said Kashmiris were conned into buying the land by local land grabbers that originally belonged to JDA and was meant for setting up of new satellite townships.
Chairman JDA Mubarak Singh told Kashmir Reader that there is a possibility of “unscrupulous elements” cheating Kashmiris into buying the plots.
“But I don’t know that,” he said.
Mubarak said that the anti-encroachment drive was conducted on a land and about 500 Kanals of land belonging to the JDA was retrieved.
“Last week we tried to demolish the structures but had to call off the drive as we faced stone pelting in the area,” he said adding several structures and foundations had been built in a week.
