SRINAGAR: Police on Friday arrested the Hurriyat Conference (G) general secretary and chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah along with his associates when he was about to address the people in Tral, party’s general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari said. In a statement issued here, Tari said Shah was scheduled to address people at Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah but was arrested along with his associates. “Raids were also conducted at party’s headquarters in Sanat Nagar,” he said.
Condemning Shah’s arrest, Tari termed it “frustration” of authorities saying, “The PDP-led government has surpassed all records of tyranny and oppression and the whole state has been turned into a big jail. It is committed to take forward the agenda of Saffron party.”
“Before coming to power, PDP used to beat the drums of ‘battle of ideas’ and ‘vision’. How shamelessly the party changed its colours and unleashed a reign of oppression upon the people by snatching their vision and putting thousands behind bars,” he said.
