Gund: The number of stray dogs in Gund and adjoining areas in Ganderbal district is increasing alarmingly with people alleging that authorities were doing nothing to control the canine menace.
Complaining of the menace, inhabitants of villages like Gund, Kullan, Rayil, Haknar, Fraw, Sumbal, and Hariginwan said that demanded that the problem be addressed at the earliest.
Residents said that the population of stray dogs has increased manifold in past few months making their lives miserable.
Residents in Haknar Gund alleged that dogs are being ferried from Srinagar and set free in the villages. While all residents were affected by the menace, children and women in the town have been worst affected.
“We are living under threat due to the dog menace, we cannot move freely on roads and go to mosque during wee hours,” a resident said.
Zain-ul-Abidin a social activist said, “The menace of stray dogs in our area has become a cause of concern not only for residents but also for the authorities who have so far failed to put a check on their growing population. Concerned authorities must immediately come to our rescue at the earliest and save us from this dog menace.”
