Bandipora: A block medical officer of Bandipora district has been attached with the office of the director health and two other officials have been suspended on charges of embezzling funds meant for pregnant women.
The police have filed a case of “criminal breach of trust” against the trio. Of the two suspended National Health Mission officials, termination of services of one has been recommended.
An investigation found that funds under a government of India scheme, which is aimed at preventing maternal and neo-natal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among the poor pregnant women, had been deposited as salaries of officials.
The accused BMO, Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, had transferred Rs 1.5 lakh in the account of District Accounts Officer. A salary advice of Rs 50,000 cleared by a health official and signed by the BMO had been credited into the account of another employee in chief medical officer’s office.
It was learnt that many other officials could face action as the investigation progresses.
