Baramulla: Police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from a truck returning from across the LoC with trade goods in Uri area of Baramulla district on Tuesday evening. The driver of the truck, Irshad Ahmad Manto, resident of Buchpora in Kulgam, has been arrested.
A senior police officer in Uri told Kashmir Reader that Baramulla police had received intelligence reports of such a truck coming from across the LoC and the police laid a barricade on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road to check all the trucks. A truck of registration number JK03B 1586 that was returning from Pak-administered Kashmir was found to contain arms and ammunition. Police seized the truck and arrested the driver.
The police officer said that the truck was on way to south Kashmir and arms were hidden carefully in the truck. Police said that one Chinese pistol with two magazines, more than one-hundred AK 47 bullets, and three Chinese-made grenades were recovered from the truck.
The police officer further said that a case under FIR number 07/2017 under Section 7/25 of the Arms Act and Section 13 of the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act has been registered in police station Uri and further investigation is going on.
