BEERWAH: Six major surgeries have not been able to restore the eyesight of 28-year-old school teacher Shabnum Amin, struck by pellets while sitting in the lawn of her home in Beerwah on September 2.
Shabnum wanted to become a teacher and had completed a BEd course after finishing her Masters degree. She was preparing to do an MEd course.
The young woman has undergone six surgeries in her left eye so far, twice at SMHS Srinagar and four times at LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad.
“Doctors have performed six surgeries on my left eye, but the operations have made no difference. I am seeing only a blur through both my eyes,” she said while talking to Kashmir Reader, tears rolling down her cheeks.
A distraught Shabnum said that her dream of pursuing a career in teaching is over. She is neither able to read nor write.
“Hoping to regain vision, I paid every penny I had to doctors,” she said. “I want to see again and want to start my profession in the same way as it was. But everything has changed now. I have been left helpless.”
