Sheep Husbandy Dept organises awareness camp in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: A capacity building cum awareness raising Camp was organized by District Sheep Husbandry officer (DSHO) Ganderbal.
The awareness camp was attended by Sheep breeders of Rayil, Hatnar, Ganiwan, Hayan, Cherwan, Naranag, Babnagri, Yarmukam, Lar, Zazna, Shuhama, Saloora and adjoining villages of the District.
Dr.Ziaul-haq-Munshi, Head, Division of Veterinary Public Health SKUAST-K who was the chief guest for the occasion stressed upon the breeders to take advantages from such awareness camps. He advised the breeders to remain vigilant about the diseases of Zoonotic potential affecting both livestock and humans.
Stress was laid on timely management and control of such diseases to avoid human as well as animal health hazards.
Dr Parvaiz Reshi, Scientist (Animal Science), KVK Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kimpressed upon the farmers to adopt scientific livestock farming for maximum profitability.
During his lecture on ‘Fortification of poor quality roughages’ he told farmers about use of urea, molases, mineral and salt forvalue addition of straws and fallen tree leaves for better feeding of livestock using poor quality straws available in the Valley.
Dr Reshi also informed the farmers about the use of silage for livestock during winter months. He further asked farmers to exploit and make full use of extension services of SKUAST through KVKs for scientific livestock farming.
DSHO Ganderbal, DrAbdul Majeed on the occasion in his addresslaid emphasis on adoption of modern technologies for better growth of sheep sector, better implementation of lab to land programmes ration of fodder banks and effective and prompt diagnostic approaches. He promised farmers every possible help at the time of need.
Deputy Director ResearchDr.Gulzar Ahmed wani, Deputy Director Feed and Fodder Iqbal Mirza, Assistant Director SBF Goabal, Dr G.M Kumar, Dr Riyaz Khan, Dr. Imran Nazir, Dr. Suhail Magrey, Dr. Asif Vakil, and Dr Irfan Magray also spoke on the occasion.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Assistant Director Sheep Breeding Farm Goabal Dr.G.M.Kujar who was the convener of the occasion.
