BARAMULLA: The people of Kalantara area of Kreeri in Baramulla district on Saturday staged a protest in front of Public Health Centre Kalantara alleging non-availability of doctors and other important facilities at the health centre.
The protestors alleged that two posts of doctors were vacant from a long time at the health centre forcing the people to shift their patients to Kreeri, Baramulla or other places.
The people said that only two BUMS doctors were posted at the health centre and alleged that they were prescribing allopathic medicines. “Some two months ago the chief medical officer Baramulla and other officers visited the area and they assured us that the vacant posts will be filled, they forget their promises” a protester said.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla Dr Bashir Ahmad denied the allegations and said “A dentist, a lady doctor, an ISM doctor and other staff, an ambulance, a X-ray room are available at primary health centre Kalantra, but some people want more development in the hospital.”
He added that the nearest sub-district hospital was only three kilometers away, “but the people of Kalantra wants that their health centre should be as Sub District Hospital, which is impossible.” “However, I will visit the area again and will solve their other problems,” he said.
