Srinagar: Syed Ali Geelani Thursday termed army chief Bipin Rawat’s warning to those helping militants during counter-insurgency operations as a threat to carry out killing of civilians.
“They want to strengthen their occupation and won’t hesitate to kill each soul for this purpose,” Geelani said in a statement and called Rawat’s remarks as “bereft of political maturity”.
Terming it “scary”, Geelani said that instead of taking this development seriously, the authorities are beating around the bush and “parroting about unfounded theories”.
“This won’t help them as in past they tried these methods to disassociate us from our stance and in future they won’t achieve anything,” Geelani said in a handout.
Taking a note of the civilian protests near encounter sites in Kashmir’s Kulgam and Hajin areas recently, General Bipin Rawat had said if they continue to create hurdles in our operations, then we will take “tough action” against them.
“It has proved his stale think and illustrates that their thinking is unfair and they lack political maturity,” Geelani said.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman said their “arrogance and stale thinking is the basic reason for continuous bloodshed and political uncertainty in state.”
“People of state and particularly the youth are up against this hegemony and suppression,” Geelani added.
