SRINAGAR: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) on Tuesday slammed authorities for arresting its chairperson Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and her personal secretary Sofi Fehmeeda.
In a statement issued here, DeM secretary general Nahida Nasreen said arrests and killings “cannot break our resolve as we are determined to take the ongoing movement to its logical conclusion”.
“The principled stand of Dukhtaran-e-Millat can never be defeated by India and its puppets. The people of Kashmir have shown that they are not with this country,” she said.
Nasreen also accused chief minister Mehbooba Mufti of “inflicting miseries” upon the people of Kashmir particularly on women.
She said Aasiya is on regular medication and was very ill when she was arrested.
Paying tributes to militant killed in a gunfight in Hajin area of Bandipora district, Nasreen said, “The sacrifices of martyrs will never be allowed to go waste.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) has strongly condemned the arrest of Aasiya Andrabi and Sofi Fehmeeda and has demanded their immediate.
“There is no moral or constitutional justification for their detention. It is extreme terrorism and a martial law like situation. Even womenfolk are not safe,” a Hurriyat statement issued here said.
Lashing out at police, the amalgam said anybody whosoever comes in their (police’s) way is detained. “Nobody cares about this highhandedness and accountability is practically non-existent,” it added.
