Khakis make visitors uncomfortable at JK Airports: BJP

SRINAGAR: The BJP believes that the presence of khaki-clad policemen at JK’s two airports is making passengers uncomfortable and wants a change in their dress code.
Making an appeal to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the home portfolio, the BJP spokesperson Khalid Jehangir urged the government to deploy “smartly dressed” security personnel inside Srinagar and Jammu airports.
“Smartly dressed security personnel at both the airports would make passengers feel comfortable.  It would add to the semblance of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir,”
Jehangir said in a handout.
He explained that the tourist rush has started picking up and that “reformative measures” would send out a message.
“Tourist season is picking up and people from different states and other countries have started thronging Jammu and Srinagar. It’s high time to carry out the reformative measures so that people start feeling the change on the ground,” he added.
Jehangir said that the policemen deployed outside the Srinagar and Jammu airports could continue wearing the Khaki uniforms.
“But the dress code of the security men within the Airport premises needs to be changed,” he said.
