He’s the cornerstone of our resistance: Malik
SRINAGAR: Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik on Monday said ‘father of the nation’ Muhammad Maqbool Bhat is “the corner stone of our resistance against illegal occupation and symbol of freedom and liberty”.
As per a statement issued here, JKLF made these remarks while leading congregational prayers and Qura’n Khawani in remembrance of Maqbool Bhat at party headquarters in which leaders and activists participated.
On the occasion, Malik said the struggle and sacrifices of Maqbool Bhat represent every oppressed and subjugated human. “Shaheed Maqbool Bhat was an ideologue, a warrior, a leader and an intellectual who dreamed of liberating his nation from foreign occupation, pursued his dream, strived and sacrificed his life for it,” he said.
“The struggle and martyrdom of the father of Kashmiri nation Muhammad Maqbool Bhat is a glorious chapter of our history that will always guide us through the journey of freedom struggle.”
He also announced programs to be held across the world during “martyr’s week”. “Kashmiris across the world will observe Shaheed Maqbool Bhat’s 33rd martyrdom anniversary as a ‘national day’. In Jammu Kashmir, programs announced by the joint resistance leadership will be followed in letter and spirit while as protest marches and sit-in will be held across major cities of the world. Party leaders and activists will hold protests in Islamabad, Pakistan, Lahore, Karachi, and other cities of Pakistan while as programs will also be held across Europe, UK, USA, Canada, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and other parts of Middle East. JKLF London Branch will hold a protest outside Indian High Commission in London. A petition will be handed over to the High Commission asking for the return of mortal remains of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat and Shaheed Afzal Guru. Seminars, protests and symposiums will be organised to pay tributes to martyrs.”
“JKLF will also hold demonstration across Azad Kashmir on 11th February. Protest marches and sit-in will be held in cities like Muzafarbad, Kotli, Mirpur, Rawalakot, Bagh, and Gilgit in which the vision and sacrifices of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat will be highlighted.”
Malik said as a living nation, we owe it to the future generations of Kashmir to highlight and spread the vision of Maqbool Bhat for which he and lakhs of other Kashmiris laid their lives.
“India not only hanged Maqbool bhat and Afzal Guru but also denied these martyrs even a chance of proper burial. This is a scar on the conscience of the international community which has failed to safeguard the very basic human rights of Kashmiris,” Malik said.
