Indian democracy torn to pieces through judiciary: Hurriyat (M)

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Saturday appealed the world nations, international human rights organisations, and civil society to “wake up and take notice to ensure the release of political prisoners (of Kashmir) who are serving life imprisonment”.
A spokesman of the conglomerate, in a statement issued here, said “Indian judiciary keeps extending the jail terms (of political prisoners of Kashmir) on frivolous charges”. “New Delhi oversaw the murder of justice in Indian courts the examples of which are replete with the death sentences of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat to Muhammad Afzal Guru,” he said.
The spokesperson said that Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, Muhammad Amin Dar, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Muhammad Ayub Dar and many others were serving life imprisonment and continue to be in jails “where they are victimised for more than 14 years”. “This is a political vendetta against them for defending the birthright of their nation.”
The spokesman said the continuous arrest of these people “is an example of how democracy is being torn to pieces through Indian judiciary”.
