Bar demands release of Dr Qasim, others

SRINAGAR: The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has expressed concern over the “prolonged” detention of Muslim Deeni Mahaz chairperson Dr Qasim Faktoo and others sentenced to life imprisonment.
In a statement issued here, Bar spokesperson Bashir Sidiq said, “Government is scared of releasing Dr Qasim because of his conviction towards the goal of freedom for which he has completed 24 years in jail.” He said the Association in its executive meeting held on Saturday hailed Dr Qasim and feels that his incarceration and lifers to others “is just a political vendetta”.
It appealed to “conscientious” people of the world and human rights organisations to impress upon the government of India to release Dr Qasim, Mohd Shafi Khan, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, and others serving the life imprisonment in different Indian jails.
