Police claims breakthrough in Lal Bazar woman’s murder

Arrests accused, recovers jewellery
Srinagar: Police has claimed to solve the mystery of a woman found dead in Pokhribal area of Bota Kadal, Lal Bazar.
A police spokesman said that Sheeraz Ahmad Alai, 27, son of Farooq Ahmad Alai of Mouchwa, Budgam had visited the woman’s house on 19 January and killed her after a scuffle. “…had an exchange of hot words which led to a scuffle during which he strangulated the lady and took away the jewellery she was wearing,” a police statement said.
Police said the accused disposed off some of the jewellery in Chadoora and proceeded to Jammu and on his return after some days, he disposed off the rest of the jewellery. “The accused got two cheques worth Rs. 79000/- from the two persons as cost of the jewellery which were encashed by him. On his instance the jewellery was recovered and the accused formally arrested in case FIR No 01/2017 U/S 302, 454, 380 RPC of Police Station Lal Bazar registered in this connection,” police said.
