KUPWARA: The District Development Commissioner Kupwara, G M Dar on Sunday convened a meeting to take stock of the snow clearance measure besides availability of essentials in the district.
The meeting was informed that in the district the snow clearance measurers are being carried out by the R&B, MED, PMGSY, Becon and MCK and all main roads leading to district headquarter have been cleared from snow. It was also given out that 80% power supply has been restored in the town and 27 feeders have been made functional. Besides the PHE department is going to provide drinking water supply through tankers at inaccessible areas, while as the Kupwara and Handwara towns are being provided water supply through taps.
The meeting was further informed that 1.65 lakh families are receiving their ration as per the norms and FSC&CA Department distributed 50,000 qlts of ration and 2400 LPG cylinders among the registered consumers of the district. The Rural Development Department has issued 86000 Job cards so for and 9.60 lakh man days of work were generated and Rs.44 corer were utilized, while as Rs.2.11 cores have been spent under IAY by completing 356 structures in the district.
The DDC impressed upon the officers and Engineers of different agencies to explore their possibilities and made available their resources as per the expectations of the people. He also sought help from Rural Development Department for engaging their man power to clear the snow from roads and other links coming under their jurisdictions. He also directed the PDD authorities to restore the power supply to PHE schemes.
Meanwhile the DDC accompanied by the R&B Exns of Hardware and Kupwara inspected various areas of Kupwara and Handwara to get first hand appraisal of the situation after snow fall.
